This happened back in April but wasn’t sure if I was allowed to share it as it hadn’t aired yet. But now its on MTV, “Roads” is out and they’ve been on tour….I think I’ve waited long enough to post it now! So, I’ve been a Lawson fan for far too long and always missed any chance to see them perform live because of one reason or the other. So for this to be such an intimate and exclusive show I could actually go to was an incredible opportunity which I thought I’d share with you guys.
Summer’s coming along nicely and this usually means everyone’s bringing out new music left, right and centre! I thought in this post I’d share with you the artists I think everyone needs to keep an eye out for in the next coming months, enjoy!
You know when you hear a new song and you’re listening to it on repeat on YouTube while you’re at home, desperately waiting for the release date which is usually like an annoying three months away. Which means its not on Spotify for an absolute age and you’re using all your mobile data up trying to get your daily listen while YouTube takes it sweet time to decide whether or not it wants to buffer for a good hour or so. Anyone else know this struggle?
So my original plan to do more regular Music I’m Loving posts flopped hard seeing as I’ve not done a in over two weeks – my apologies. So this is long overdue. Whenever I’m home alone, this is usually when I’m flicking through all the music channels an stumbling across some new music and those oldies but goldies. In this post, I’ll be sharing with you some songs I can’t stop listening to at the moment!
Okay so just how incredible was the
VMAs Beyoncé concert Sunday night?! Seriously though, there were too many times I genuinely forgot about the rest of the VMAs and any other performances because well….Beyoncé. I’ve been waiting for a live full out televised awards performance from Bey for too long so its safe to say I was HYPED as was the rest of Twitter Hive. Speculation was rife with rumours as to what she was going to perform, who was going to present her with the MJ Video Vanguard Award and whether they’d be any special guests. In this post, I’m going to recap the big moments of the 2014 BeyMAs: looks of the night, the big performance and other best bits. Enjoy! [Apologies in advance for the lengthy read!]
SO, if you haven’t already heard – and if this is the case where on earth have you been hiding – Queen B dropped a remix of the already iconic anthem that is “***Flawless” featuring Nicki Minaj.
All this week, Twitter speculation was on another level with Bey rumours, and as a Beystan I don’t like to look into them too much as majority of these rumours are…just rumours.
You’d think since the surprise album I’d have prepared myself for anything Bey could and would do next. Lemme tell you now – I. Was. Not. Ready.
I’m still trying to comprehend what has gone down with this surprise drop and have been spamming on Twitter all day since (I’m not even sorry), so I’m gonna keep it brief and tell you about the key moments:
1. Beyoncé aka Yoncé aka Third Ward Trill rapping
I was slayed before I even heard Yoncé’s voice so when she started rapping – I was DONE. I live for when Bey gets a little bit ratchet.
2. Reference to THAT elevator incident
B repeats “Of course sometimes sh*t goes down when there’s a billion dollars on the elevator” twice, laughs and then a cash register sounds. I feel like NO more should ever be said about the fallout again because this one liner has said MORE than enough. QUEEN.
3. Beyoncé summoning Nicki as ‘ONIKA’
This moment here is like when your parents call you by your middle name, you just know something’s going down. This right here at the 2.16 – the greatness went to a level that, again, nobody wasn’t ready for. The chills.
4. Nicki’s verse….That’s all that needs to be said.
I’m not a Nicki stan but I will always pay credit where its due, like here where its due x 1000000. Nicki KILLED it. Like I knew she would do but AGAIN, I wasn’t ready. She even slipped in a little controversial MJ reference – I’ll let you find that one yourself. “Queen of Rap, slaying with Queen B” – Nicki stanning for Bey… need I say more? NOPE. NEXT.
5. That beat. That bass.
The original beat for ***Flawless was already hot but this remix beat is just sooo sicccckkkkkk. The heavy bass, the added synths and sounds, pauses – YAAASSS.
So now like my Twitter followers, you’ve probably grasped by now that I’m LOVING this remix and I’m praying we get an official release on iTunes along with a music video. Until then, I’ll be jammin’ by myself to the audio, anxiously waiting at midnight for anymore surprises.
You can listen on SoundCloud below or go to flawless.beyonce.com and let me know your thoughts on the remix in the comments section AND vote in the poll below! Do you think this remix was more ***flawless the original? Was Nicki the right choice for the remix or would you have preferred someone else?
Hope you enjoy!
Until next time,
This post has come about because I’ve recently been reunited with my laptop and iTunes library so I’ve now been able to update my iPod after about 5 months. (I know, I don’t understand how I coped either but shout out to Youtube and Grooveshark for supporting me through this hard time). Let’s begin:
Its safe to say I have developed a new obsession in the form of British band Rixton. After Shazaming one of their songs ‘Me and My Broken Heart’ thinking it was a new Maroon 5 track and before you know it I’ve spent all night searching every interview, cover, performance they’ve done and fallen in love. Like deeply in love. Their success started off in USA after a whirlwind of being signed by Scooter Braun (responsible for the likes of Bieber, Ariana Grande and The Wanted), having their single played on Ryan Seacrest and performing on Ellen, The Voice USA and supporting Ariana and Biebs on tour. They are definitely up there on my concert wishlist and I can’t wait to see them do even bigger things here in the UK. My favourite songs of their’s are Appreciated, Me and My Broken Heart (OUT NOW BTW), Speakerphone and their newest one Wait On Me.
2. Kiesza – Giant In My Heart
The amount of times I replayed the Hideaway video is ridiculous, I’m still in love with it now. I’m a sucker for choreography and 90s so it would be cray if I didn’t love Kiesza. I just love how she channels that old-skool vibe in her music and videos. I won’t lie, I was wary as to whether this would be as big of a hit as Hideaway but Kiesza has DELIVERED. The video’s a little different to Hideaway but you still see her KILLING that choreography along with two backing dancers in black. I’m waiting to hear this on a night out so I can go OFF on the dancefloor but until then I’ll have the video on repeat and jam alone in my room. Make sure you grab it on 10th August in UK!
3. MAGIC! – Rude
I. Can’t. Stop. Singing. This. Song. I was literally flicking through the music channels on telly one day and saw this, never heard it before so I stayed on, watched and listened. Since then, every few minutes or so I can pretty much guarantee I will be singing a lyric from this song; out loud, in my head, humming – the song is sung in some way. ( *SINGS AT TOP OF LUNGS* CAN I HAVE YOUR DAUGHTER FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE? SAY YES SAY YES ‘CAUSE I NEED TO KNOW). There have definitely been mixed reviews on the song but I can definitely say I’m a fan. I love his voice, his awkward (yet cool) dancing in the video and the reggae feel to in the melody. Give the video a watch and whether you like it or loathe it, prepare to have it stuck in your head for some time.
4. M.O – Dance on My Own
My girlssss! I love love LOVE these girls so much and the throwback feel they bring with their style and sound. I always have such major style and hair envy whenever I see their pics pop up on Instagram. Their newest single is called Dance on My Own and like their other songs alike, I’ve fallen hard for this one. I’m still so sad that I missed them touring with Little Mix earlier this year (my exams clashed with the tour dates waaaaah) but couldn’t be prouder to see how far they’ve come since the Wait Your Turn days and I just know they’re gonna be BIG. I can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store (fingers crossed an album…!?) so I would highly recommend you check these girls out. Give their video (see above) a watch and check out their other music and behind the scenes videos here. So that’s some of what I’m loving this week, what about you guys? If you’re loving these as well or you’ve got any new music recommendations for me or you just wanna say heeeeey, please give show some love in the comments below!
Until next time,
